….and on the eighth day God created Gorilla Tape

We left the ferry as one of the first vehicles off. Being 06:30 local (05:30 BST) it was pitch black outside and so, driving very carefully, we found ourselves in the centre of Roscoff old town. First of all to see whether we needed to pay to park (it’s our britishness I guess). We next ventured forth to go to the ‘Boulangerie’ recommended to us and located “behind the church”. Failed to find any sign of aforementioned bread shop so happened across a handy caff instead.

Tea and coffee were the order of the day before striking out for our first destination of Quimper – to the south of the Brittany peninsular.

Roads were a pleasure to drive on. Harding a blemish yet alone any sign of a pot hole. Driving standards also polite and forgiving especially for those following behind us.

So, we reached Quimper and pulled in at an ‘Aire’ next to a large supermarket (Intermache). Although we were both very tired from a sleepless night on the ship, luckily Ann had enough energy to do some shopping while I got my head down.

Minor disaster – over cab storage shelf partially collapsed when the fitting pulled out. Despite my best efforts I could not repair the join but happily I had a new roll of Gorilla Tape on board (other tapes are available).

Baguette-based lunch followed and a decision to make for an Aire at a village called Combrit – a pleasent little village as it turned out with a bar, restaurant, boulangerie and burger shop (?!). After pitching up we strolled into centre-ville and stopped off for a glass of wine – a very civilized way to end the day – and would have been rude not to have!
