La Rochelle

It’s probably Tuesday. In a last minute decision we headed for a campsite almost in the centre of La Rochelle just staying the one night at Aire de Camping Port Neuf. As soon as we parked up we walked the mile and a half or so into the city itself (well the port and old town anyway). After a coffee/chocolate and a freshly cooked crepe (our first of the tour so far) we ambled through and around many of the streets and side roads taking in the busy atmosphere – people watching on the hoof if you like!

Finally stopping for a meal in one of the many fish restaurants arranged along side the quay.

Pics to follow but the following day and just as we were packing up ready to leave, a chance conversation with other brits changed our minds for the next destination. Instead of parking for the night at a vineyard near Bordeaux (we were advised against that particular site) we ended up at Beau Soleil about 10kms to the south of the city and a surprise encounter so bizarre we scarcely believed it actually happened!! more to come…
